CUMaS vs CUMSA (4/02/2007)

CUMaS 4 - 1 CUMSA

*Pictures to come up soon*

CUMaS put on a spirited display today to beat CUMSA soundly in this local derby. The match was eagerly anticipated by both sides, and by neutrals too, and they were not to be disappointed. As the teams lined up, the monstrous height and physical toughness of CUMSA team was evident, but CUMaS proved more than a match for them.

The match opened with all guns blazing from both sides, tackles flying from left to right, and for the first 20 minutes, they were deadlocked, with shots from distance fizzing past the posts. After several promising performances at the back, Ian joined Fendi forming our premier back line, holding the CUMSA soldiers at bay. The opening shot from Captain Yew Hong forced a spectacular diving save from the opposition goalkeeper, setting the tone for the game.

Although both sides were evenly matched for most of the first half, it was Ju Xing who broke the deadlock, and gave CUMaS the advantage, speeding down the wing and finishing brilliantly from a tight angle.

This gave CUMaS a platform to build on, and they were slowly piling on the pressure. Kevin and Imran were starting to slowly dominate the midfield, and before the stroke of half time, the former put in a beautifully placed cross in which Voon Kiat miss hit it.

The second half started in the same manner as the first half did, and both sides were battling for the control of the midfield. Both sides had their chances, but it was evenly contested for the first 10 minutes of the second half. CUMaS started taking the initiative, and they were rewarded with a goal after some brilliant build up play let to Voon Kiat scoring from an easy tap in.

The third goal came soon after, when Chin Lik scored after a goalmouth scramble. He coolly put it past the keeper from a tight angle, and by then the match had already been decided.

CUMSA did pull one back, after some lethargic defending from CUMaS, but the goals were not to end there, with Ju Xing scoring after a tremendously long goal kick from Fendi landed right onto his feet.

It was a good win for CUMaS who looked more than impressive during their preparation for the OxBridge games.
