CUMaS vs CUMSA (14/04/2007)
CUMAS 9 - 3 CUMSA
On a bright clear day, in the aftermath of Man U's drubbing of AS Roma, CUMAS took to the field again, and completed a comprehensive win against CUMSA.
Due to the large turnout, we donated them some of our finer players, most significantly superstar Arthur "Ronaldo" Shek, "Flying" Chin Lik Tan, Roger "English" Colbeck and also the experienced ex-abacus captain Colin Chan. With these players strengthening their side, CUMAS found it tough going, and it was no surprise when the on loan Chin Lik finished of a good sweeping move to put CUMSA 1-0 up.
CUMAS struggled to put passes together, with opposition captain Sootet quick to break up moves in the middle of the park, and CUMSA continued to look dominant. Arthur turned on the style, dazzling through several players with some trademark skills, and scored two quick goals. Things were looking ominous.
The CUMAS hero of the day began the fight back, as Voon Kiat latched onto a pass and pulled the trigger quickly, beating the goalkeeper. The striker was looking especially sharp, and penetrating passes by Mozek's deft accuracy, lead to his 2nd of the day.
CUMAS swung the balance of power around, as the centre backs won 100% of aerial balls, and utilised the pace on the wings. Kevin Lau lead by example, bringing the ball up all the way from right back, interchanging one-two's with the midfield to put CUMAS ahead with a typical power finish. The midfield battleground was being increasingly CUMAS territory, with Captain Yew Hong skinning several CUMSA players through the midfield to set up goals for guest player Kevin Leung and Ian Chin. His turbo-charged runs were matched with his own horrendous finishing, preventing the captain from netting more than the single goal he managed.
Things were wrapped up with a brace of well struck goals from Mozek, demonstrating the "this is how its done" of shot technique and to cap things off, VK completed his hat trick with the last goal of the day.
All in all, a meaty performance, showing plenty of potential up front, sharp footwork in the midfield and good industry at the back. With the on loan players returning to the team for our next game, CUMAS looks like becoming a formidable footballing opponent.
Man of the Match
Voon Kiat "Inzaghi" Lai was on fire today, having a much improved performance with both his snapshot finishing, early releases and off the ball hustling. A fully deserved hat trick.
Goals
VK 3
Mozek 2
Kevin Lau 1

OxBridge Games 2007: Squash
Oxbridge squash was played at Trinity college, Oxford. The court was of normal size and had a solid wall instead of a glass wall. There were 2 matches, 1 male and 1 female. The male match was played between Kuhan (Cambridge) and David (Oxford). Kuhan won in a straight set. The female match was played by Angie (Cambridge) and Chiau Ling (Oxford). Chiau Ling won in a straight set. Standard tournament double dot squash ball was used. Angie sustained a minor injury during warm up but recovered soon after. Both matches proceeded without any problems. Overall result was a draw.
